Why isn't the Easysoft JDBC-ODBC Bridge implemented as a Type 4 driver?

It's true that Type 4 drivers use machine resources more efficiently than Type 3 drivers, as there is no middleware server component. However, a Type 4 driver is specific to a database engine. If you change to a new database, the Type 4 driver needs to be rewritten. With the Easysoft JDBC-ODBC Bridge, you only need to install an ODBC driver for the new database. No other changes need to be made. In addition, a Type 3 driver provides both ends of the network connection, allowing connections to database engines that do not normally provide networked access.
