SQL Server on Linux
In March 2016, Microsoft announced their plans for a Linux port of their database product SQL Server. A preview release is available, on an invitation-only basis, to users who sign up to the SQL Server on Linux early access program. The private release is initially available for Ubuntu Linux and as a Docker image. The full release is currently scheduled for Summer 2017.
Although based on SQL Server 2016, the Linux version of SQL Server will not contain all features contained in the Windows version. Rather, it will contain "core relational database capabilities."
In the meantime, if you need to:
- Connect a Linux application to SQL Server now.
–Or–
- Ensure that your target SQL Server is fully featured, rather than the subset of features that SQL Server for Linux will contain.
–Or–
- Connect to Azure SQL, the cloud-based version of SQL Server.
Use Easysoft's SQL Server ODBC driver.
As we are on the early access programme for the SQL Server on Linux, we will ensure that our driver also supports the Linux port, when it is eventually released.
